Joe Golding Field at Memorial Stadium is the home field for Legacy High School Leopards, Memorial High School Mavericks, and the Midwestern State University Mustangs.
Memorial Stadium carries a deeper meaning beyond athletics, serving as a tribute to those in WFISD who served our country and made the ultimate sacrifice. The field itself is named in honor of longtime Wichita Falls High School head football coach and former WFISD Athletic Director Joe Golding, whose impact on generations of student-athletes helped shape the tradition of excellence in Wichita Falls Athletics.
Originally opened in 1970 under Golding’s leadership, Memorial Stadium marked a major transition for Wichita Falls ISD Athletics, moving from the historic Coyote Canyon site into a new era of competition and community pride.
Over the years, Memorial Stadium has hosted numerous high-profile games and memorable moments, with crowds surpassing the 14,500-seat capacity as standing-room sections were opened to accommodate demand.
The stadium is also home to the Eddie Waldrip Press Box, a two-story facility designed to support game-day operations with dedicated space for coaches, media coverage, and school dignitaries. Eddie Waldrip has been a constant presence at Memorial Stadium since the very first game in 1970, faithfully operating the scoreboard ever since and becoming a lasting fixture of game nights.
In recent years, Memorial Stadium has undergone several major upgrades, including the addition of a new HD video board, state-of-the-art LED lighting, upgraded synthetic turf, and a premium Bose sound system that enhances the game-day atmosphere for athletes, students, and fans alike. These improvements help ensure Memorial Stadium remains one of the premier athletic venues in the region.
